Todd Richter Attributes Successes to College Golf Team
College sports can play a crucial role in a student’s life and long-term success. They often teach discipline not found within the classroom; they provide confidence, teamwork, support and other benefits that create a positive foundation for life. Todd Richter discovered just this in his college golf team at the College of William & Mary in Virginia.
Richter studied finance at the premier school, graduating in 1979 with his undergraduate degree. But that piece of paper was only one gain of his studies. Richter says that the golf program and his coach Joe Agee, an emeritus professor of kinesiology, instilled an education that couldn’t have been achieved elsewhere. Richter attributes his successes in business -- of which there are many, including his status as one of Wall Street’s leading analysts in healthcare for more than 20 years -- to Agee and the team. This college experience taught Richter how to be an effective competitor, how to develop his competitive instincts, how to focus under pressure. He didn’t just receive a world-class education at William & Mary, but also real-world knowledge applicable for a lifetime -- and that was gained through sport.
Todd Richter recently acknowledged his appreciation for the golf team, Agee and the university by providing a $5 million estate commitment to endow the men’s and women’s golf program in perpetuity.
